Sundance 2027 press accreditation: what Boulder changes
Standard press accreditation for the 2027 festival is now open. Sundance Institute isn’t running a self-serve online application this cycle: you request an application by emailing the Institute directly, then complete the supplied application for their review; requesting a form does not guarantee approval. We cannot apply on your behalf and we do not have access to acceptance rates beyond what the Institute publishes. What we can help with is the part the official process will not cover well: where credentialed press actually stay, how far venues sit from each other in Boulder, and how to plan a workable schedule once your badge is approved.

Apply through the official process
Sundance Institute runs its own press credentialing process, including eligibility rules, outlet requirements, and any fees. Because credentials are limited, applying early is worth it, and Sundance encourages an assignment letter; freelancers without an assignment may not be accredited. Details and the official request page are below; we will link directly rather than paraphrase requirements we cannot verify in real time.

Official dates: a discrepancy to be aware of
The accreditation portal lists August 17 as the standard-window opening date, while Sundance’s main press page says August 24. Both dates have passed. The portal lists October 22 as the standard deadline and October 23–December 10 as the late window. Credentials are limited; a late window is not a promise that places will remain.
Prepare your accreditation request
- Read the official press page and request the application from presscredentials@sundance.org.
- Prepare your outlet details, proposed coverage and any assignment letter. Treat these as preparation, and follow the exact evidence requirements in the application you receive.
- Submit the completed application as instructed and retain confirmation. A request email, application submission and credential approval are separate steps.
- Wait for the Institute’s decision and badge conditions before planning around press-only access.
Questions for freelancers and first-time press
Can a freelancer apply without an assignment?
Sundance encourages assignment letters and says freelancers without assignments may not be accredited. Ask its credentials team about your circumstances; publication plans alone do not guarantee acceptance.
Is standard accreditation the Press Inclusion Initiative?
No. The Press Inclusion Initiative has a separate process; the main press page listed its 2027 application window as July 27–August 14, 2026. That window has passed. Follow the standard accreditation instructions if that is the route you need.
Does a press badge cover every event?
Do not assume universal access. Confirm screening, interview and event permissions in the conditions supplied with your credential, and check whether any separate reservations are required.
Where this guide helps once you are credentialed
Boulder’s festival footprint is compact but spread across a handful of venues rather than one campus. Once your badge is approved, the logistics questions that matter are: which hotel keeps you within walking distance of your assigned venues, whether you will need a car at all, and how to structure a multi-screening day without wasted transit time. Our venues guide and hotel guide are built around exactly that decision.
