Festival dates: the full 11 days

When is the 2027 Sundance Film Festival? It runs Thursday, January 21 through Sunday, January 31, 2027: 11 days total, confirmed by Sundance Institute. In-person screenings continue throughout the full run, not just the first week: Sundance says additional showings of the program continue until the festival wraps on January 31. A separate online window lets remote viewers watch from home during the second half of the festival.

This is the same overall shape Sundance used in its final Park City years: a concentrated in-person stretch up front, then an online window at the back end so films remain reachable to press, industry and (for select titles) the public after the in-person crowds have thinned.

Premiere window: January 21–26

When do premieres happen? World premieres run January 21–26. Sundance separately lists in-person press and industry screenings January 21–27, with repeats January 28–29. These are different windows; public in-person showings continue through January 31.

Reporting from Boulder Reporting Lab (July 30, 2026) adds venue detail: roughly a dozen Boulder buildings within about a two-mile radius will host screenings and events, including CU Boulder’s Macky and Muenzinger Auditoriums, eTown Hall, the Dairy Arts Center, and Hotel Boulderado as festival headquarters. Sundance Institute told Boulder Reporting Lab it is installing 240 speakers into Macky Auditorium ahead of the festival. Press and industry screenings specifically will also use the Cinemark Century Boulder theater on 29th Street, a detail not previously published elsewhere on this site. Festival Gala and Awards Ceremony

When is the Sundance Gala and Awards Ceremony? The Festival Gala is set for Friday, January 22, 2027, near the start of the festival. The Awards Ceremony, where the jury and audience prizes are announced, is set for Friday, January 29, 2027, toward the end of the online-access window. Both dates come directly from Sundance Institute’s official festival announcement.

Online screening window: who gets access, and when

When can the public watch films online? Public online screening access runs January 28–31, 2027. Press and industry online access opens a day earlier, on January 27, giving accredited press and industry an extra day before public streaming begins. Not every film in the festival is guaranteed an online slot; Sundance has historically limited online access to a subset of the lineup, so treat this as a window during which some titles are available online, not a guarantee that a specific film will be.

Ticket and pass milestones

The confirmed 2027 package lineup differs from the final Park City (2026) structure: a Full Festival Ticket Package ($925, 10 tickets), an Encore Ticket Package ($675, 10 tickets to repeat screenings), a Second Half Ticket Package ($450), a Matinee Ticket Package ($350), and an Ignite Ticket Package presented by Adobe ($275, ages 18–25, 10 in-person plus 5 online tickets). When does the lineup come out?

When will the 2027 Sundance lineup be announced? Sundance Institute has set December 2026 as the lineup announcement window. That is roughly six weeks before the festival opens, which is consistent with Sundance’s typical lead time in prior years. Until the lineup is announced, no schedule, film list or venue assignment can be confirmed. We will not publish a guessed lineup, and any site claiming to have one this far out should be treated skeptically.

The 2027 festival is based in Boulder, Colorado, headquartered at Hotel Boulderado, with screenings and events spread across roughly a dozen buildings within about two miles of downtown, including CU Boulder’s Macky and Muenzinger Auditoriums, eTown Hall, the Dairy Arts Center, and the Cinemark Century Boulder theater for press/industry screenings.
