Dates and what’s confirmed so far
Sundance Institute announced the move to Boulder with festival dates of January 21–31, 2027. Within that window, the official press portal currently lists a premiere period of January 21–26, awards on January 29, and a limited public online program from January 28–31. Use our dates and deadlines guide for the full calendar and the distinction between public and press screening windows.
Venues: what’s actually confirmed
The official February announcement listed 11 screening-theater listings and 4 talks/programming listings. Several of those listings share an organization or a physical address, so treat any claim of “15 separate venues” with skepticism, we don’t make that claim, and neither should you when comparing sources. Hotel Boulderado is identified as festival headquarters. CU Boulder has confirmed sound, projection, and accessibility upgrades at Macky Auditorium, Roe Green Theatre, and Muenzinger Hall ahead of the festival. Use the venue guide for locations and the hotel-to-venue comparison when shortlisting a stay.
Where to stay
The short version: downtown Boulder (Pearl Street area) puts you closest to Boulder Theater and Hotel Boulderado but at a premium; the CU Boulder area suits anyone prioritizing Macky, Roe Green, or Muenzinger; and commuter towns, Longmont, Louisville, Lafayette, Broomfield, even Denver, trade a lower nightly rate for a longer, weather-dependent commute in January. Our hotel guide includes stay-area comparisons, walking estimates, a total-cost example and questions to confirm before booking.
Tickets and passes
Confirmed Full 2027 ticket pricing is published: single film tickets are $37, ticket packages range $275-$925, and Express Passes range $4,500-$7,500. Passes and packages go on public sale October 15, 2026, and single-film tickets go on public sale January 8, 2027. See our full tickets and passes guide for every product and rule.
Getting to and around Boulder
RTD’s AB1 route is the official public transit connection currently cited by Visit Boulder and Denver International Airport for reaching Boulder. Within Boulder, Visit Boulder has described a free HOP transit service, e-bike passes, park-and-ride facilities, and dedicated festival shuttles, all of it currently Planned, meaning the intent is public but hours, stops, and eligibility haven’t been released. We’ll upgrade each of these to Confirmed the moment official schedules land.
Parking
Pending Sundance and the City of Boulder have not yet published festival-specific parking rules. Until they do, the City’s standard parking rules are the only reliable baseline, we link directly to the city page rather than guessing at what a festival overlay might look like. See our full Sundance 2027 parking guide for garage rates, RTD Park-n-Rides, and a zone-by-zone breakdown.
January weather and packing
Boulder in late January sits at roughly 5,300 feet, and conditions swing more than flatland winter weather does, sunny and dry one day, icy sidewalks the next. For the full historical-vs-forecast breakdown and packing list, see our Boulder weather and packing guide.
New to Sundance?
If this is your first festival, the sequencing that matters is: confirm your dates, pick a stay area based on which venues you care about, then plan transport around that stay area, not the other way around. Our dedicated First-Timer’s Guide walks through this step by step.
